A 5-day educational seminar was held at the headquarters of Jama'at-e-Islami Hind under auspices of education department of Jamaat and New Delhi's Human Welfare Trust, began with Tazkeer by Janab. Mohammad Javed Iqbal. Quoting a Hadith of the Prophet (S.A.W.), Mr. Iqbal said it is necessary for a Wiseman to be aware of his times and watch its ups and downs deeply. On the third day, while expressing his views on the sources of history, Professor in the history department of Jamia Millia Islamia Mr. Azizuddin said when English men compiled the history of our country, they also narrated certain incidents in it that were not based on facts but spread Hindu-Muslim hatred. He also complained that such books have been published in large numbers that fail the standards of history books. He said past incidents become a lesson for nations and this is the reason that Muslim historians have adopted complete honesty and judiciousness in writing history.
Presenting his paper on 'Islamic Principles of History Writing', Dr. Mohammad Azim said before understanding the thought of a philosopher, we need to comprehend his age. Referring to antique sources and documents, he said Mohammad bin Tughlaq was first talented and experienced ruler of India who studied the social structure of India and appointed men from different tribes and families for the administration of his Sultanate. He said that Aurangzeb's military comprised 38 per cent Hindus and 85 per cent of them were Marathas. He said no Muslim ruler established any department to demolish temples and a Jain temple is still present in front of Delhi's Red Fort, where Aurangzeb lived for twenty years. On the contrary, there are a number of documents that tell of properties donated by him to various temples, a clear proof of Aurangzeb's religious tolerance.
